Our History

  1. 2006

My New Red Shoes was founded

We began in a Menlo Park garage with one clear goal: meet children’s basic needs with dignity. We gave kids new clothing and shoes for school, and an entire community came together to make it happen.

  2. 2020

    Meeting the moment

When the pandemic hit, we moved fast. We got cash directly to families, gave emergency funding to families affected by local fires and provided 2,000 pairs of Crocs and other PPE to frontline health workers and nonprofit agencies. Direct cash transfers have been central to our work ever since.

  3. 2021

    Investing in families

We launched guaranteed income pilots with our partners, including Project Empower with Tahirih Justice Center for immigrant survivors of violence and a youth cash transfer pilot for high school students.

  4. 2022

    Mobilizing a community

Within a three-month window, we mobilized thousands of community volunteers and partners to help send hundreds of thousands of winter boots and aid to displaced families and refugees impacted by the war in Ukraine.

  5. 2025

A new name for a new chapter

We rebranded as mBOLDen Change to reflect how we’ve evolved to meet the urgency and complexity of today — and how we’ll keep adapting to the challenges ahead.

  6. Today

    Deepening our impact

Our work now reaches deeper and far beyond where we started. Partners use our tools in classrooms and trainings, our advocacy takes on policies that affect families everywhere and our initiatives close the gaps where systems leave families behind.
