We started in a Menlo Park garage with one clear goal: meet children’s basic needs with dignity. Founded in 2006 as My New Red Shoes, we distributed new clothing, shoes, and confidence to kids whose families were experiencing poverty — and mobilized an entire community to do it.
Since then, we’ve supported more than 260,000 children and families through a mix of in-kind support, direct cash assistance, and connections to wraparound services. But as the challenges around us deepened, so did our understanding of what it takes to create meaningful impact.
While our commitment to meeting the urgent needs of children and families remains core, our work now includes reshaping the systems that impact their lives and futures.
Our new name — mBOLDen Change — reflects both the courage and the clarity of that purpose.
We’re not just responding to needs. We’re building what’s missing.
We’re not just showing up with charity. We’re showing up with strategy.
And we’re not doing it alone — we’re backing the grassroots leaders, partners, and ideas already shifting what’s possible.
Because equity doesn’t emerge from good intentions. It takes bold action.
And that’s what this next chapter is all about.
Minh Ngo, Board Chair and Executive Director, is a nationally recognized philanthropic leader, human rights advocate and expert in systems change, racial equity, and economic justice. She has experience working with nonprofit and non-governmental organizations, social movements, government agencies, and private sector partners to create sustainable solutions for vulnerable populations locally and globally.
